Selah

Selah is a Hebrew word mainly found in the book of Psalms. It is debated on the exact meaning of the word but some scholars believe Selah is to pause or reflect. In our hurried world today we are going at a pace that may lead the mind and body to be overworked or become off balance. The full connection should be 50% of the mind and 50% of the body. We are entering a season of busyness on top of the everyday busyness already in our lives. We tend to hurry through one task just to get to the next and by doing so we overwork ourselves allowing the world to dictate our lives when the world doesn’t stop for a pause.

The main benefit of Pilates is to create that balance of the mind and the body. Pilates is designed to take the time to perform each exercise with control and focus, taking a moment of pause between each exercise. Pilates brings us back to the basics of mind and body connection. One cannot function properly without the other. We may only do a few repetitions at a time but each one is with the intent to consider the balance of 50% mind with 50% body. It is about quality vs. quantity.

If you feel yourself squeezing in time to workout, hurrying each exercise, or getting in as many reps as possible in the shortest amount of time and then going on to the next thing in your day, stop and just pause for a moment. Take time to Selah and in doing so may you find the balance for your mind and body connection.
